Thanks everyone, for creating another interesting, beautiful month of poetry!

And thanks for the feedback on my poems - I look forward to going back and digging into several of them.

Welcome to May Day 2015!

Since Joanne Epp is busy launching her first poetry collection this spring, I've offered to gather the poets for The May Day Poetry Project's eleventh season.

I look forward to another month of making beautiful words together.

Every year I have greatly appreciated this annual collective outpouring of new work and the conversation that goes along with it.

The population of the group has been slightly different each year, but it still holds to the original principle of helping each other and being helped in our development as artists.

The name of the May Day Poetry Project comes from the internationally recognized distress signal that in its turn came from the French "m'aider" (or "help me").

It's also "a modern working class celebration and commemoration that came from the 1886 events in Chicago where workers were demonstrating for an eight hour day."

And since I think good art comes out of both the individual and the community, both being helped and making sure you get what you need, I thought it was an appropriate moniker for this effort.

Also, it happened to be a project we were doing during the month of May.

And it sounded sort of snappy. - Ariel
