untitled

What was it that flew past just now?
A bird? A wind-borne yellow leaf?
A stone flung up into the air,
no particular target in mind? Was it
a thought hurtling so fast
it could not be caught in the mind’s net?
Did the mind itself or the hand
trigger the motion? Or Someone
else? And what

has the heart to do with it?

I find moments like this captivating: that sensation of having almost seen something.

I stumbled a bit over "the mind itself or the hand" in the third-last line. The mind could be that of the speaker, but the hand would be someone else's--that is, the speaker would know if she'd thrown the stone.

I like this Sarah. I wonder if your first line could be your title?

Then you can ask all those questions?

I agree with Joanne about that stumbling point. Re-ordering that sentence may make it clearer ("Motion triggered by...") - something like that. And yet vaguer because it could be anyone's hand or mind if that makes sense.
