Between 6 & 8

We prayed for clouds to clear
warned the children not to stare.
Told them about the time it happened
when I was in elementary school.
How we watched it on tv, all the windows
carefully sealed off. Now it seems
it happens all the time: there is
always one eclipse or another
coming up, or a meteor shower, or
a satellite explosion. This evening, we
sat around outside, lit the firepit
casually looking up in time to see
the snake bite the sun.

I like this, especially the last few lines.

I wonder if you could play with line breaks a bit? End with more interesting words than is, or, we? And perhaps play with the length of lines, too? It could be fun to play with white space on the page.

I like the last few lines particularly, too. I wonder, considering what comes before, if you really need "casually"? It's probably better demonstrated than stated.
