The grandfathers sit around in heaven smoking white pipes
with dogs fetching slippers and one, he say, tapwe Jack
we should get the kids together down there to build or mend
fences and then the grandmothers they call everyone
for dinner (it's always dinnertime in heaven, one big
feast) and the kids who get to play with fire now
alla time, well, they light all the candles in the night sky and dim
the moon as the mood takes them
and sometimes they dance before dinner
tableclothes billowing in all kind of colour eh,
and the bannock, well,
she never burn.

love it! love 'the kids who get to play with fire now'.
a few things:
I think you could drop 'with' and just have 'dogs fetch slippers'.
also, if these are Métis folk, maybe you could use the Métis names for grandfathers and grandmothers.
Yeah, the kids playing with fire is my favorite line. Second favorite is the bannock.
The phrase 'as the mood takes them' didn't feel like it quite fit with the style of the rest.
Otherwise I love this.
