Temp gig

By what perversion
of fate
am I editing
wedding videos?

chopping happy moments
into bits
dicing couples'
cute memories
of how they met
and all they expect
from each other
synching the sound
so their stories
sound right

I never meant to
become bitter
or return to
the cynicism
that served my
teen years so well
even before
I'd ever kissed
a boy
or known
what true pain
really was

but here I am muttering
don't believe him
sweetheart
oh god, it'll never work
big weddings can't buy
happiness --
nothing can

And I may be right
but who am I
to fast forward?
Got to just
let them
play it out
slow motion
s
oft light
kind cuts

Good one. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

About the ending-- (even though I like it the way it is) I was wondering what would happen if you ended it after "fast forward"?

Good one, Polly. I liked the details, the emotions of the editor and the unprofessional observations. "Don't believe him"

Ouch. Like the muttering comments especially. That the speaker's temporary job is "editing wedding videos...synching the sound so their stories sound right." That there is such a job. The artiface of the happy moment, the soft lights and kind cuts. That you can give them the thing that they may or may not be able to give to each other.
