heavy bags

each a different, blind, opponent:

old prize fighter,
still hard-muscled in the gut
but face caved, duct-taped

barrel-chested canvas heavyweight
on a flabby comeback,
strong but slow, creaking
on its thick spring

spry black leather
moves loose and eager,
won't let you in close,
but nudges, gutsy,
inside your range

can't throw, won't win
but invincible --
never ache, never tire,
don't double over a fist,
just steadily siphon energy,
store it deep, swaying --
trees in the wind --
an hour after the last punch

great idea but it left me with questions

i'd like to be more clear.

are there three bags?

since you have canvas in the second stanza and leather in the 3rd, a texture in the 1st might help. or if taht is about canvas, make it all one stanza?

then the last stanza - maybe a "they" at the beginning"? (all on a line by itself even) the first 2 times i read it i was thinking this was the boxer speaking at the end. ok maybe i'm just tired/thick today...

very cool!!!

yeah, it's supposed to be three different bags. I was trying to think about how to format it to make that clear, but i'll work on that in the next draft. thanks for the suggestions!
