Lovely moment in time. I like the way the beginning thought about how motion keeps us balanced is in tension with the ending about a mother's wish to keep her child safe and close. I'm still considering how the title fits into that. Perhaps the title is pointing us to the fact that the child won't forget what the mother has taught him even when he does grow up and speed away from her? A part of me wonders if the title contains too much confidence for the tone of the poem. I'd love to hear what others think.
Could you convey how it feels when one first takes to the bicycle? That edgy freedom, that first swoop of independence? I'd like this piece to throw us a bit more off balance!
