(four)

tulips dot McMillan
where yesterday raindrops
found only dirt and dry shoots
.............how did you keep your secret
.............till the very moment you burst open
.............yellow, orange, and red?

so doubtful was i of you
that i skulked into strangers’ gardens
for a feel of your velvet coats.

:) yay, tulips. aren't they always a surprise for our eyes? how *do* they keep their secrets...

"skulking" always makes me think trenchcoats and sunglasses...you could trespass instead, it sounds more authoritatively naughty!

"for a feel of your velvet coats."

yay.

Oh Marjolaine, I do love this. I see that Andie doesn't like "skulking"--I do! But I agree that "for a feel of your velvet coats" is just excellent.

I like this too!

My only suggestion is to change around the third-to-last line so it's a bit more straightforward: "I was so doubtful of you" or even just "so doubtful/i skulked..."

I like the skulking!
