Small Corpse

Feathers imploding outwards
like flotsam from a shipwreck:
"wreccum maris, sturnella neglecta"
The body lays in state
on the corner of the neighbour's lawn
Decapitation indicates
feline involvement
The wind tenderly ruffles
delicate breast feathers
The grass is inured to grieving
but a bough is sighing mournfully
The ants will pay their respects

Death brings a certain
softness before
the hardening.

oh I can just see this. could you play with the shipwreck image a bit more as I like this very much. or would that be too forced?

decapitation indicates/ feline involvement!

Ah..you also spoke of death today I see.. (yes, somewhat differently!)

You had me holding my breath through the description of the body, and just on time you surprise us with the identity of the victim - well done. Nice writing!
